The Freedom of Information Act 2000 and regulation

This document provides a summary of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in relation to information provided by awarding bodies for the accreditation and monitoring work of qualifications regulators in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Freedom of Information Act 2000 came into force on 1 January 2005 and applies to all public authorities, including regulatory authorities.
This document was published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The regulatory function of QCA is now the responsibility of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). Ofqual regulates qualifications and monitors national curriculum assessments in England.
