Supporting the NVQ system in Northern Ireland

Last updated on: 18/07/2008

Over the past 12 years the team in Northern Ireland have worked extensively with key stakeholders and external customers in order to ensure that the Northern Ireland market receives timely advice and guidance relevant to their specific needs.

The general shift towards collaborative activity has ensured that we have now established partnerships in Northern Ireland with our relevant stakeholders to achieve commonly agreed objectives.

We continue to support the Department for Employment and Learning through participation in the programme of work for the reform of vocational qualifications in Northern Ireland and contribute to national policy and planning of behalf of Northern Ireland.

In collaboration with Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) and other sector bodies in Northern Ireland we ensure that work on qualifications is informed by regional as well as national interests and that the specific sector qualification needs of Northern Ireland are reflected in emerging Sector Qualification Strategies.

A quarterly NVQ Awarding Body Forum is now well established dealing specifically with Northern Ireland issues and we have worked successfully with our awarding bodies and SSCs to host joint workshops to deliver coherent and standardised messages to employers and training providers in Northern Ireland.

This forthcoming year we will continue to support our key stakeholders and external customers through:

  • Development of an Ofqual NI e-bulletin
  • Advice and guidance through telephone queries and face to face meetings
  • Workshops
  • Stakeholder Forums
  • Focus Groups to address key issues
  • Development of case studies specific to the Northern Ireland audience
