Synoptic assessment at A level

This document looks at a range of definitions of synoptic assessment, and in particular at generic questions which focus on themes or issues. The reports looks at why synoptic assessment was introduced and whether it was designed as a means to getting the most of both linear and modular worlds.

This document was published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The regulatory function of QCA is now the responsibility of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). Ofqual regulates qualifications and monitors national curriculum assessments in England.
