Ofqual Committee

Chaired by Kathleen Tattersall, the Ofqual Committee will meet, on average, six times a year. Minutes will be published on this page, in accordance with our publication scheme.

Ofqual has been established under the Apprenticeship, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and we will commence as a fully independent body on 1 April 2010. In the interim period we will operate as part of the QCA. QCA has put in place a new legal and governance structure giving us the maximum amount of independence possible under the current statutory framework. As part of this structure the Ofqual Committee has been established to oversee the exercise of Ofqual's regulatory functions. After 1 April 2010, the committee will be replaced by the Ofqual Board.

As announced on 19 February 2010 the Ofqual Board members will be:

Ray Coughlin has a background in the financial services industry having held general management positions in HR and Strategic Management. He has been appointed to represent the interests of Northern Ireland.

Neil Watts is an experienced former secondary school headteacher now working in educational consultancy.

Gillian Easson is currently Deputy Chair of the University of Manchester's Board of Governors and is Vice-Chair of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

Fay Scott is currently employed as Head of Equality and Diversity at the Legal Services Commission.

Denise Holt was British Ambassador to Spain (2007-9) and Mexico (2002-5) following earlier overseas postings to Ireland and Brazil.

Maggie Galliers has been Principal of Leicester College since 2002, having previously been Principal of Henley College Coventry.

Tanvi Davda is currently a Director at Barclays Wealth within the Global Banking and Investment Solutions business where she is Head of Business Management.

Sandra Burslem is a former Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University and is now a Civil Service Commissioner, Chair of the Education Honours Committee and the first independent Chair of the British Council's Education-UK partnership.

Tim Balcon is Chief Executive of Energy, Utility and Skills.

Philip Fletcher is Chairman of Ofwat (the Water Services Regulation Authority).

John Townsley is Executive Headteacher of Morley High School and Farnley Park School in Leeds.
