Reliability in the Key Stage 2 Science NCTs

13 November 2009

Ofqual's research programme into the reliability of results continues with the publication today of a new report into national curriculum test results.

The study, Partial Estimates of Reliability: Parallel Form Reliability in the Key Stage 2 Science Tests, concluded that between 83 per cent and 88 per cent of pupils who took these tests were likely to be awarded the correct level.

The report, which looked at evidence over five years, was commissioned by Ofqual and carried out by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER). Science tests are no longer taken by all pupils at the end of Key Stage 2.

The NFER report on Key Stage 2 science tests and other research into reliability were among the subjects discussed.

Video footage of a UK Youth Parliament workshop event at which young people discussed the reliability of results can be seen on our YouTube channel.
