Independent Committee Report on Examinations Standards

Last updated on: 08/04/2008

The Independent Committee is expected to meet three times a year with its work to cover GCE A level, GCSE and GNVQ examinations and to report direct to the QCA Chief Executive. The main work of the Committee is expected to involve:

  • evaluating the judgements made by experts in QCA’s rolling programme of reviews of standards over time and other comparability work to ensure that they are well-founded and fit for publication;
  • overseeing any follow-up action to investigations of comparability and standards over time that is needed to align standards;
  • commenting on methodologies used by QCA in its comparability work.

This is its first report, and focuses specifically on GCE A levels.

This document was published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The regulatory function of QCA is now the responsibility of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). Ofqual regulates qualifications and monitors national curriculum assessments in England.
