Functional skills

Functional skills are practical skills in English, mathematics, and information and communication technology (ICT) that allow individuals to work confidently, effectively and independently in life.

The term 'functional' should be considered in the broad sense of providing learners with the skills and knowledge that they need to take an active and responsive role in their communities, in their workplace and in education. They are real skills that can be used in everyday life.
