Developments

General
- The Diploma aggregation service – the technology that will make it possible to aggregate and award the composite Diploma qualification – is being developed in conjunction with primary stakeholders.
- General policy developments that affect all Diploma Lines of Learning, for example around the use of language units within ASL, are being consulted on.
- More consortia are coming on line as part of the ongoing Gateway process, delivered by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
- A comprehensive workforce development programme is under way.
- A communications strategy and implementation plan is being rolled out to raise awareness among teachers, parents, learners and other interested parties involved in the delivery of the Diploma.
Phase 1
- Component qualifications for principal learning and generic learning have been accredited and listed within the Diploma catalogues on the National Database of Accredited Qualifications.
- The overarching Diploma qualifications have been accredited and listed within the Diploma catalogues on the National Database of Accredited Qualifications
- The ongoing development of additional and/or specialist learning qualifications is being informed by work with employers and higher education institutions to ensure clear progression routes for young people into a range of jobs and degree courses.
- Curriculum guidance materials are in place for use by schools and colleges delivering the Diploma from September 2008.
Phase 2
- New Diploma principal learning qualifications accredited
- Ofqual recently announced the principal learning qualifications that have been accredited for the phase 2 Diploma Lines of Learning. The following qualifications have been accredited and will be available for first teaching in September 2009:

- Full details of all the accredited diploma qualifications will be available on the National Database for Accredited Qualifications (NDAQ) on 1 September 2008.
The following phase 1 Diploma qualifications have also been accredited in addition to those that were accredited in 2007.

- Phase three Diplomas will be submitted for accreditation in 2009. Ofqual will be monitoring closely the delivery of the phase one Diplomas as they are introduced for first teaching in September 2008 to ensure that they are fit for purpose, command public confidence and result in fair outcomes for all learners.
- Curriculum guidance is in development.
Phase 3
- Line of Learning statements – outlining the broad content expectations within principal learning – are under development. Criteria development will follow.
Phase 4
- The Diploma development partnerships for the phase 4 Diplomas are being assembled to take forward the development process.
