As not everyone’s aware of who we are and what we do, we’ve created specific introductions to our responsibilities and services, tailored to the needs of different groups. If you’re studying for qualifications, a qualification holder or responsible for a learner, this page will explain what you need to know about us.

If you’re a learner, GCSE or A-Level candidate, trainee, professional/adult learner, parent/guardian of children being assessed or a professional mentor, reading this introduction will guide you to the relevant sections of this site.

Regulating on behalf of learners and qualification holders

We want you to get the mark your work deserves. We also want your qualifications to be worth the same in the future and to ensure that equal effort is valued equally.

We regulate the qualifications industry so that everyone who takes an examination or assessment gets a fair deal.

What we don't regulate

  • University qualifications (degrees or university entrance exams)
  • International qualifications
  • Qualifications for vehicle operator licences
  • Qualifications for certain sporting licences

Advice for learners

Our helpdesk team have selected some of the most common advice they give:

  • If something has affected your exam performance, talk to your teachers as soon as possible. They may be able to ask the awarding organisation or board for special consideration.
  • If you have a problem with a teacher, you should discuss the situation with your teachers, the head of the centre or school governors.
  • If you’re having a problem with your centre, school, or college you should contact the relevant awarding organisation, if they’re separate from your training centre.
  • To obtain an official record of your exam results you should contact the awarding organisation or board, who will issue a Certifying Statement of Results or a letter of confirmation of results
