Information for teachers and employers

teachers and employers

As not everyone’s aware of who we are and what we do, we’ve created specific introductions to our responsibilities and services, tailored to the needs of different groups. If you’re a teacher, trainer, head teacher, exams officer or school governor this page will explain what you need to know about us.

As you read this introduction, it will guide you to the relevant sections of this site.

Supporting teaching and training centres

We have a duty to ensure that teaching and training centres get the right support from awarding organisations and boards to help you deliver accredited qualifications. This means clear, unambiguous and fair standards.

As a vigilant and independent regulator of qualifications, it’s also our duty to ensure qualifications represent value for money. We have the power to cap fees charged by awarding organisations where necessary.

We need your feedback

We’re here to ensure that awarding organisations and boards give you the support you need to deliver accredited qualifications. We’re interested in any comments you might have on:

  • our approach to recognising awarding organisations
  • how we monitor awarding organisations and boards
  • how we monitor their qualifications
  • the steps we take when we identify problems
  • how we keep all aspects of National Curriculum assessments under review

Awarding your own qualifications

If you would like to deliver a particular type of qualification, but there isn’t a suitable example within the QCF, you have two options.

The first is to approach a recognised awarding organisation to work with you and get the qualification accredited. The second is for you to become a recognised awarding organisation and have your qualification accredited independently.
