Research into the Assessment of spelling, punctuation and grammar in GCSE

The regulator of GCSEs in England, Ofqual, requires a thorough review of the various approaches to assessing performance in spelling, punctuation and grammar in GCSE, in order to develop recommendations on future assessments.
The review will include consultation with assessment experts, teaching and examining practitioners, and awarding organisation representatives to ensure that the recommendations developed are fully considered from the practical, pedagogical and technical angles.
The research will also include a review of assessment materials and candidate work, and as such should be carried out by experts with experience in evaluating GCSE assessment and in carrying out consultations.
