Consultation responses show support for Ofqual
Friday, 04 June 2010 09:42
The establishment of Ofqual as the independent regulator of examinations, qualifications and assessments has received support from a wide range of stakeholders, a consultation has revealed.
Ofqual is today (Friday, June 4) publishing an independent report on the responses from its first major consultation. Titled 'Regulating for Confidence in Standards', the consultation ran for three months from December last year to March this year.
A total of 77 organisations and individuals from a wide range of stakeholder groups, including awarding organisations, teachers’ associations, universities, colleges and employers, took part in the consultation. This gave them the opportunity to comment on Ofqual’s regulatory principles, general approaches and early indications of ways of working.
Overall, they welcomed the establishment of Ofqual and the strategic approach to regulation it has set out.
The support shown for the approach set out in the consultation enables Ofqual to move forward in developing its strategic approach to regulating qualifications and assessments with more detailed proposals, methods and ways of working. These will be the subject of further consultations in the Autumn.
Included in the responses were requests for greater detail and clarification of both terminology and intentions, and these points will be addressed as the more detailed proposals are set out.
