Ofqual - Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation

Information for:

A level results and university entrance

Ofqual, the examinations and qualifications regulator in England, has issued a statement following reports this weekend about possible proposals to change the timetable for A level results and the way in which University offers are made.

Isabel Nisbet, Ofqual Chief Executive, said: "As regulator, Ofqual wants a process which is fair to candidates and manageable by schools, colleges and universities. We will actively consider any proposals with stakeholders including universities, Ucas and with the awarding organisations whom we regulate.

"A changed timetable for examinations and results would require everyone involved - not just the awarding organisations - to make changes to their own practices. This is not without risk and as regulator Ofqual would ensure that A level results continued to be subject to the most rigorous quality assurance."
