Ofqual has appointed Jeremy Benson to the new post of Director of Strategic Management. Jeremy has held a number of senior civil service positions. He has worked in the Department for Education and its predecessors for fifteen years. He spent six years working on qualifications policy issues, including leading the Department’s project to establish Ofqual. Previous posts included a secondment to a university and managing a Spending Review project.
The Director of Strategic Management will work closely with Ofqual’s Chair and Chief Executive and be part of the Strategic Executive Group. Leading a corporate management team, Jeremy will play a pivotal role in the development of the organisation. He will also provide leadership and strategic vision to enable Ofqual to develop a rolling three year strategy, identify and maximise opportunities to implement innovative value for money and reform objectives and take responsibility for reporting to the UK Parliament and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Commenting on his appointment Jeremy said. "I'm delighted and honoured to have been appointed as Ofqual's Director of Strategic Management. Like the rest of the public sector, Ofqual faces some big challenges in the months and years ahead. I'm looking forward to helping Ofqual to meet those challenges, and contributing to its important work.”
Ofqual Chief Executive Isabel Nisbet said, “The Director of Strategic Management will be a vital part of the senior leadership group. We shall look forward to welcoming him at a crucial time for the organisation, when we need to clarify our future role in a changing educational and public service policy context.”
